The City of Virginia Beach seeks a detail-oriented professional to coordinate the day-to-day operations and facilities of the Virginia Beach History Museums. This position is responsible for ensuring all sites are safe, maintained and equipped to support the mission of the department. This position will work closely with the History Museums Director to create positive, mutually supportive relationships with myriad stakeholder groups, including but not limited to the Virginia Beach Historic Houses Foundation, Friends of Virginia Beach Historic Houses and the various nonprofit organizations operating at City-owned sites.
While the majority of work responsibilities fall within the History Museums Division of the Cultural Affairs Department, some activities will be in support of other department divisions and initiatives.

- Schedule and oversee part-time contractual staff, working in concert with programming and leadership team members to create and maintain a master calendar and schedule to ensure staffing needs are met.
- Create a welcoming, friendly and professional environment, and serve as an advocate for and representative of VBHM and the Cultural Affairs Department in the community while promoting the department’s mission, programs and services.
- Ensure the safety and maintenance of high-quality historic facilities, grounds and equipment by identifying and addressing needs; initiate and track maintenance and landscaping service requests for VBMH and City-owned historic properties.
- Serve as primary point of contact for after-hours security company that monitors sites.
- Develop and maintain a suite of standard operating procedures for sites, and ensure that safety and operational policies and procedures are reviewed regularly.
- Provide administrative support to Virginia Beach Historic Houses Foundation meetings, including but not limited to preparing various documents as needed, reconciling bank statements and posting accurate financial data to QuickBooks to prepare financial reports, assisting with annual audit and coordinate compliance with necessary licenses.
- Identify, draft and/or assist with grant applications, sponsorship documents and reports for the Foundation and/or VBHM.
- Exhibit an extraordinary level of customer service by understanding the mission, programs and operations of the department and display willingness to assist clients, colleagues and stakeholders.
