Opening Full Time 40 hours Grade 054 Ofc HR - VP Office Schedule 8 AM-5 PMResponsibilitiesGeneral Purpose:Serves as a strategist, subject-matter expert, lead writer and content creator for University Human Resources, specifically focused on staff recruitment and retention needs for the University of Rochester. With limited supervision, this position supports development of effective communication plans and delivers high-quality, timely, engaging content that measurably helps to drive recruitment applications and aids in the retention of staff (aligning with the established mission and goals of the University of Rochester).Duties and Responsibilities:Under limited direction and policy guidance, with high latitude for exercise of independent judgment:Communications Strategy and Service-line Support
- Serves as a subject-matter expert for HR Recruitment and Retention across the University, especially as it relates to the clinical environment (Strong Memorial Hospital and URMC Ambulatory outpatient locations). Maintains relationship with key leadership in important job categories (nursing, labs, pharmacy, call center, etc.), attends important meetings, monitors health care/human resource publications, and takes other steps to stay current with what is happening within the fields of health care retention and recruitment.
- Develops and leads execution of program components that support the goals and priorities of the University it relates to recruitment and retention.
- Serves as a communications “consultant” and creative contributor for HR Recruitment.
- The Communications Specialist serves as project lead and content creator for HR Recruitment and Retention activities. This includes developing communication plans, identifying target audiences and matching to appropriate channels, outlining and implementing project strategies and tactics, and developing paid media plans in consultation with vendor partner
- Measures effectiveness of communication efforts, actively reviews results, and suggests adjustments to improve effectiveness based on those results.
- Reviews and approves paid media plans in consultation with vendor partner.
- The Specialist serves as owner of the University of Rochester recruitment Instagram channel, assuring content is well-targeted to readership, well-written and engaging, This work includes, but is not limited to: creating and publishing posts; maintaining editorial planning calendars; producing editorial guidelines and/or policies for approval; interviewing patients and staff members; and copy-editing content drafted by others. Frequently produces photography or video assets needed to support posts, web content or other stories.
- Develops and writes a variety of moderately complex content aimed at internal and external audiences including, but not limited to, online news and feature stories, social media posts, newsletter articles, website copy, news releases, video scripts, email memos, infographics, and PowerPoint presentations. Projects may be assigned, but the HR Communications Specialist identifies content needs and produces work independently, with minimal reviews by a supervisor or team member.
- Provides detailed project management support to assure all communications plans – organic and paid -- are fully implemented on time and on budget.
- Acts as key liaison with vendor partners, ensuring all work and assets meets communications objectives and strategies. Works with vendors to measure effectiveness and recommends changes as appropriate.
- Monitors budgets for all vendor work, and alerts Director of HR Communications to any variances.
- Provides monthly reports on social media channel performance and/or other results that analyze opens, click rates and other factors, making recommendations and conducting tests to improve performance.
- Works with team members and supervisor to understand daily, weekly and monthly priorities of HR Recruitment group, and directs work to align with these priorities.
- Participates in department and/or other meetings as assigned.
- As needed, assist with writing/editing for other projects (e.g., award nominations).
- This position reports to the Director, HR Communications.
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, or related field that includes writing experience required; 5 years of experience required, 7 years of experience preferred; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Demonstrated proficiency in writing and editing moderately complex content based on target audience, with ability to provide context and/or reshape material as needed in a fast-paced, high-demand environment
- Knowledge of and/or experience in contributing to and managing accounts on various social media platforms, including experience in photo and video capture/editing
- Experience with HTML programming, content management systems, data analysis, metrics presentations, and/or graphic design would be a plus
- Strong organization and project management skills
- Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communications skills; comfortable talking to all levels of faculty/staff, and in front of groups
- Ability to work independently and within a collaborative team
- Occasional night or weekend work. Position is expected to be available on-call for responding to weekend social media posts and/or inquiries as required
- Must understand and ensure compliance with HIPAA requirements and URMC policies for protecting patient privacy and other confidential information
